Outings for Less: How to Take Your Family on Outings Without Draining Your Wallet

After a hard week’s work, it would be nice to take your family on an outing to not just rejuvenate and re-energize but to also let you reconnect with your family. It’s a great way to bond with the kids and make them feel that everything will be alright. Unfortunately, the family budget can sometimes be tight, which often leads us to cancelling our plans and opting to stay at home for the weekend. The good news is that there are ways to enjoy outings for less with your family. Unsure of how to do it? Read on and find out.

Tips for your outings for less

Get ready to spend more weekends out with your family with these tips for outings for less

1. Bring a picnic basket

We know how much easier it is to just buy food from the stores and restaurants near your destination. However, that would be more expensive, right? It’s cheaper to pack a picnic basket.

Advantages:

Among the advantages of this include bringing what your kids want to eat while making sure that the preparation is clean and ensuring that your food includes something healthy.

Disadvantage:

It takes time preparing your basket.

2. Take the public transportation

If you don’t have a family car, skip getting a rental because that would be expensive. It’s more practical to take the public transportation (train or bus), especially for long drives.

Advantages:

It’s going to be a new adventure for your kids. Most families with cars have children that long to experience riding on public transport. Give them the experience and enjoy your outings for less.

Disadvantage:

You don’t have any control of the time. You have to follow their schedule; otherwise, you’ll be left behind. Another disadvantage is the crowds, especially when the trip is packed with travellers.

3. Bring games for the family

Kids get bored pretty easily, which is oftentimes the reason they wander around and find something to buy! Keep them busy by bringing along some games you all can play—frisbee, Monopoly, Jenga, and other games that are fun and engaging for all ages.

Advantages:

Playing games bonds the family together. It offers a nice opportunity to laugh together while having fun. For the adults, it’s a nice way to exercise both mentally and physically.

Disadvantage:

Running around with kids, especially when you play with a Frisbee can be exhausting. However, thinking about all the fun and happiness it brings to your kids, then, who cares about exhaustion?

4. Know the activities at the place you’re going to

Another tip for your outings for less is to be familiar with the scheduled activities at your destination. For example, if you’re going to a park, find out if they have shows at night and if they charge anything for it. This way, you won’t have to pay for something unplanned and end up breaking your budget.

Advantages:

You are ready when your kids ask if they can watch a show or join an activity. It allows you to see how much you need to take with you without breaking your budget.

Disadvantage:

None. Nada.

Spending time with the family is priceless, but we cannot disregard that it can also be expensive. This is why we have put together these tips for your outings for less so that you won’t have to worry about breaking your bank account. So, go ahead and enjoy your time with the family.
